The Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange (LMTI) is a regionally significant infrastructure project that links to strategic employment and residential growth areas, and to national transport routes.
The LMTI incorporates both public transport solutions (NSW Government) as well as the expansion of the local road network (Lake Macquarie City Council), and therefore the financial responsibility is split between two levels of government. The LMTI will be constructed in stages –
• Stage One - construction of the overbridge and associated roads - short to medium term (LMCC's responsibility - $50 million approximately)
• Stage Two - construction of the railway station and interchange - medium to long term (NSW Government responsibility)

Currently the Lake Macquarie City Council is looking to engage an external consultant for design works of LMTI. Open Tender is to be advertised between 8 September and 4 december 2012. Design works are scheduled for period between March and December 2013
