The proposal is for an east-west motorway of about 15-17km between the M7 Motorway and The Northern Road which would provide increased road capacity and reduce congestion and travel times in the future. It would also improve the movement of freight in and through western Sydney and is expected to serve the Western Sydney Priority Land Release Area and the Western Sydney Employment Area.     The Australian and NSW governments are planning to upgrade The Northern Road as part of the Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan (WSIP), a 10 year, $3.6 billion road investment program. This upgrade covers approximately 35 kilometres between The Old Northern Road, Oran Park and Jamison Road, Penrith. The Northern Road Upgrade is to be delivered in six stages. The 16 kilometre Mersey Road to Glenmore Parkway (Stages 4-6) will be delivered in three sections between: - Mersey Road, Bringelly and Eaton Road, Luddenham (5.5km). - Eaton Road, Luddenham and Littlefields Road, Luddenham (4.5km). - Littlefields Road, Luddenham and Glenmore Parkway, Glenmore Park (6km).

    The studies involves engaging multiple state based and interstate based consultancies (Inspiring Place, Montemare, Hill PDA, M2 Architects) to develop feasibility studies, economic impact assessment and whole of life business model for the development of an indoor sports stadium for the greater Hobart area. The feasibility study began in 2015 and was completed in July 2015 (Inspiring Place) with the EIA and whole of life business model to be completed in December 2016 (tentative).     The HSR network would comprise approximately 1,748 kilometres of dedicated route between Brisbane-Sydney-Canberra-Melbourne. The report estimates the cost of constructing the preferred HSR alignment in its entirety at around $114 billion (in 2012 dollars).   • Feasibility of a second Tasmanian electricity interconnector

    The Commonwealth and Tasmanian Governments have requested a feasibility study of whether a second electricity interconnector would help to address long-term energy security issues and facilitate investment in renewable energy. The study is being undertaken by Dr John Tamblyn, with support from a taskforce led by the Department of the Environment and Energy. The Tasmanian Government, the Australian Energy Market Operator, TasNetworks, AusNet Services and the Clean Energy Finance Corporation are providing guidance and input over the course of the study. The study will build on and complement the work already being undertaken on reviewing the preconditions for a second interconnector that is being conducted as part of the Tasmanian Government’s Energy Strategy.
