Infrastructure investment

Transport is a major contributor to economic outcomes. The transport sector represents 4.4 percent of GDP, and almost half of Australia’s major infrastructure construction is undertaken within the transport sector.

Investment in and delivery of publicly owned transport infrastructure is the responsibility of all three levels of government. The Australian Government has committed over $75 billion for the next 10 years to transport infrastructure across Australia. This investment is assisting in building more liveable cities, enabling better-connected regional communities, driving key productivity improvements and creating safer roads.

NICS will continue to be updated as specific project information and commitments are announced by the Australian, state and territory governments.

The North West Rail Link is a priority rail infrastructure project for the NSW Government. The new rapid transit rail link will connect Sydney's booming North West region and is the city’s biggest transport infrastructure project since the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge almost a century ago. Eight new railway stations are proposed at: Cherrybrook, Castle Hill, Showground, Norwest, Bella Vista, Kellyville, Rouse Hill and Cudgegong Road. Also planned are 4,000 commuter car parking spaces. The rail link includes 15km of twin tunnels between Bella Vista and Epping, a 4km skytrain viaduct and the conversion of the existing Epping to Chatswood rail link to the new generation single deck system. The Unsolicited proposal is currently at Stage 3, which includes: * RMS/Transport for NSW working with the proponents to commence community consultation, with exhibition of an environmental impact statement and lodgement of an application for environmental and planning approval. * The proponents working with a Government team to undertake a competitive tender to select a design and construction contractor. The NSW Government will seek to negotiate a final binding offer with the proponents before making a final decision on whether to accept the proposal.
