The Project involves the upgrade of approximately 600 kilometres of track on the Adelaide (Islington and Outer Harbour) to Tarcoola rail line. The upgrade will improve capacity by increasing rail size along the interstate line, moving rail size from 47 kg per metre to 60kg per metre. The project will also include bridge strengthening works to allow for the higher axle loads (25 tonnes at 80km/h) and where appropriate other associated upgrades (i.e. level crossing renewals).
