2016-17 Budget: Infrastructure Investments

The Australian Government has committed funding of over $50 billion towards productivity enhancing infrastructure across the country from 2013-14 to 2019-20 and beyond.

NICS will continue to be updated as specific project information and commitments are announced by the Australian, state and territory governments.

Monash Children's Hospital (MCH) is to be a purpose built paediatric facility at Monash Medical Centre Clayton. This development will provide specialist acute children's health services in a child and family friendly environment. The new facility will deliver tertiary paediatric services that will meet increases in demand and improve access for the growing paediatric population in the south-east of Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and south-east Victoria.

The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital (RVEEH) Redevelopment is designed to meet the expected increase in demand for age-related eye and ear conditions and associated research. The initiative includes a mix of new and upgraded accommodation within the existing external structures of the RVEEH, some expansion for specific clinical services and a full upgrade of the hospital's engineering services infrastructre and plant.

A new 32-bed community hospital in the southern suburbs of Geelong. The new facility will provide same day surgery, chemotherapy chairs, renal chairs and capacity for specialist clinics. This will increase services for the growing population of Geelong and the Surf Coast Shire.

The redevelopment of Melbourne Park Stage 2 will include: a new bridge over Batman Avenue from Birrarung Marr to Melbourne Park leading to a new western entrance for the precinct; a major refurbishment of Rod Laver Arena, including a new eastern entrance, and a new media and administration centre. The second stage of the Melbourne Park redevelopment is expected to begin following the staging of the 2015 Australian Open.

VicRoads is delivering 8 kilometres of freeway widening and upgrade works between Melbourne Airport and Bulla Road. This includes a major upgrade to the Mickleham Road interchange and reconstruction of the English Street bridge and all ramps to increase access capacity to and from Essendon Fields.
